Yesterday, I did something that I havent done in a long time, I bought a box of a Panini product. However, it wasnt because of the product itself (which ended up being right where I expected it to be), but rather to get a shot at a promotion that should have some nice traction coming this week. I mentioned a few days ago that the Black Friday Pack Promotion would be a big success because of how it is being done, and after my experience at Sports Cards Plus in San Antonio yesterday, I would say my guess was correct.
I bought a box of the new Certified because it was the only Panini product that still has any real relevance in the hobby right now in case I need to resell it. I pulled a bunch of complete junk, but again, this was my expectations. In return, I received some of the Black Friday packs, and that is where I had some fun.
The cards are already starting to show up on eBay, mine among them:
2011 Panini Black Friday Tim Tebow DVD Promo Card Auto
2011 Panini Black Friday Cam Newton Draft Day Jersey Card
2011 Panini Black Friday Arian Foster Pro Bowl GU Pylon Card
Each of the packs contain two cards, and there are a combination of promotional cards from the baseball sets and 2011 Donruss Elite, and one base card from the Black Friday set itself. If you dont get a promo card, you have the chance of pulling one of the hits of this whole thing, which range from Super Bowl relic cards to signed cards from previous promos like Tebow and his new DVD.
The thick cards (relics) are EASILY searched, so be sure that your shopowner is trustworthy enough to hold the packs. While I was there, a number of hits were pulled, including six jersey cards, four autos, and a bunch of the 2011 Elite Rookies with updated (non-NFL combine) pictures.
I got lucky and pulled 2 hits out of my packs, which almost made up for my shitty box of Certfied. One was an on card auto of recently inducted HOF running back Marshall Faulk from the Madden promotion that was run with the release of the game, and the other is a Pro Bowl game used ball of Drew Brees. I also pulled updated Elite cards of Terrelle Pryor, Mark Ingram, Jacquizz Rodgers, Aldon Smith, and a few others all numbered to 999.
The other big hits from the shop were a Tim Tebow DVD autograph card, a Deangelo Hall pro-bowl jersey auto /9, and a Nick Collins Super Bowl relic card, that I think will be the set everyone chases from this giveaway.
Overall, I was pretty pleased.
Glad you had fun. The customer response has been fantastic! I have already given out almost 400 Black Friday packs (sold almost 100 boxes of Panini product in about 24 hours). And, everyone is having fun!
Friday should be even better. We still have over 800 Black Friday packs to give out with Panini products purchased.
Hits include a John Wall auto #d/10, three Tim Tebow autos, about 6 Marshal Faulk autos, and autographed pylon cards.
I actually think the Brees you pulled is a decent looking card.
It is simple, nothing too weird is going on, good (and relevent) player picture, and everything seems to scale. Of course if this was a regular set, there would be a /999 version with no relic, but that is a moot point. Not a bad pull.
