2011 Topps Inception Football Is Live and AWESOME

When I first saw the previews for Topps Inception, I was floored by the awesome idea of getting rookies to hard sign the cards at the premiere in pre-designed NFL uniforms. It was an awesome idea, and the set itself was designed beautifully with stunning concept and theme, including the painted style photography that I absolutely love. When I saw the actual cards in person at the National convention, they exceeded my expectations, looking even better than I ever could have imagined they would have turned out. Even without a veteran autograph checklist, the cards look like those reserved for Super High End products, in a box that costs less than 100 bucks.

The first cards are up on eBay, and they look absolutely tremendous. The silver autographs pop against the black backgrounds, and even the jersey cards look well designed. The patch cards, despite similarity to Platinum from last year, look like they are upgrades from any others that Topps has put out, even though the designated areas for the sticker and the patch cut into the player picture. I wish Topps had moved everything over and not outlined the elements with the foil, but like I said, its an upgrade over other examples.

Here is what is up so far:

2011 Inception Jake Locker Jumbo Patch Auto

2011 Inception Christian Ponder On Card Auto /25

2011 Inception Blaine Gabbert Jersey Card

2011 Inception Mark Ingram Jumbo Jersey Card

I have a feeling that people will be surprised by the way this product has turned out, and that the price may jump considerably if the original box breaks go well. I am currently working with them on a contest for my readers to win a free box, so stay tuned for the announcement later on.

  1. Oh man, I’ve scaled back my opening quite a bit because most football products this year are a waste (looking at you, Panini), but this set looks great. I’m having one opened by Chris at The Hobby Box and will probably grab another after work. Holy moly.

  2. I’m not a huge football collector other than a few favorite players, but this set is awesome. I’ll surely be picking up some.

  3. I really like the looks of these cards, but they have GOT to find a way to protect the cards better (or make them tougher) because most of the ones I have seen are chipped to hell on the edges.

Also, kudos to Topps for listening to the complaints about taking out the material around the letters. That Cam letter is the way 5 Star should have looked.

  4. Went to the local hobby shop and bought a box of Inception. Freaking pulled a 1/1 Jake Locker 2 colored patch Auto card. I haven’t decided if I want to sell it or keep it. Kinda of new to collecting…..any advice on how much to sell it for or what to do would be appreciated.

  5. What a lot of people do with high level 1/1s is to put a real high Buy it Now on eBay with an option for a best offer. Worst case, after one week, you can relist it at a lower number until you get an offer you like.

    Congrats on the awesome pull!
