2011 Totally Certified is Nothing Exciting At All

Totally certified, despite its TOTALLY stupid name, sold quite well in basketball regardless of the odd content. Therefore, im not that surprised that Panini is trying to port the product over to Football with the same hopes of success. For a person like me that absolutely despises foilboard cards, this set is ridiculous overkill. However, the designs they did preview aren’t as bad as I would have expected them to be. That’s not saying this entire concept does not have major issues.

First off, these boxes were expensive in basketball for what you got, and most likely will be similarly expensive in football. For one good auto and one scrub auto, plus four jersey cards that wont sell for crap, the price point is right on par with the EIGHT other Panini products that are being sold with similar content. They are also touting that collectors will finally be able to pull the HRX cards, however, I fail to see why this is still a big deal.

Overall, this second Certified branded set is a waste of space on the calendar, and will most likely only appeal to the collectors that already love Panini. Its not going to convert anyone, and really just looks like Limited with a different cutout for the patch. Im not really getting why this would ever be explored, especially with what seems to be little to none original content that isn’t offered over the rest of their calendar. The Phenom Patch Autos Limited didn’t look THAT bad with hard signed signatures, but I just cant believe that another trip to the well is what will cure the boredom that so many people have with Panini products.

Boredom should be the thing to cure, even though my disgust with their designs is worse. Take a look at the cards:

  1. Barry Sanders…Emmitt Smith…Walter Payton…CURTIS MARTIN? Let’s play which one doesn’t belong…

I can’t wait for the Jerry Rice, Raymond Berry, Steve Largent, CARL PICKENS quad jersey or the Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Bart Starr, Steve Bono one.

  2. Those are the four running backs that have the most yardage of all time, so Curtis Martin is completely appropriate in that sense. Bettis is #5 and Tomlinson is about 500 yards away from passing Martin.

  3. So this is a separate release from Certified? Nice creativity there Panini…

  4. Martin is 4th on the all time rushing yards list, behind Smith-Payton-Sanders. 3rd on most attemps behind Smith and Payton. Most consecutive season with 1,000 years – 2nd ties with Sanders and behind Smith. I think he belongs with them.

  5. have to admit it even though I hate all those really shiny crap they produce but kinda like the rookie card reminds me of limited rcs from 2 years ago and last year should have team name or nickname instead of just rookie

  6. I totally agree with Bradley, these cards have a smart look. I really liked the initial baseball release of this product. I’m still a big fan of the 90’s look and this updates it well.

  7. I Totally agree with Gellman. This product is shit, wouldn’t break it no matter how cheap it gets. I mostly buy singles anyway, and the only ones I would consider would be a logo shield or some sick logo patch like the Julio Jones b/c in crap products like this I’ve plucked some nice cards for pretty cheap. And those HRX cards don’t do much for me either.

  8. You guys are right. When I ask you to name the best four running backs of all time Curtis Martin comes right to mind. LOL. Just like Craig Biggio is the best player of all time because he played for 20 years.

  9. Is it just me, or is every football product being released this year virtually identical? A bunch of autos, a bunch of jerseys, a bunch of rookies, and utterly crappy design.
