Im a big fan of cards that dont necessarily settle for the norm. Acetate cards have always been cards that I feel are an under used medium in the hobby. Of course, the material looks to be a lot harder to work with than cardboard, but the cards look tremendous when done right. Upper Deck made a name for products like Trilogy with acetate cards and autographs, and Panini looks to be taking notice.
During the rookie premiere and recent posts on their blog, Panini previewed acetate hard signed cards for the upcoming release of Elite, and I think they are pretty awesome looking. So much so that I am thinking of buying some of this product in box form for the first time in years. A few of the cards from the giveaways done during may and june have started to show up, and I cant wait for it to go live hopefully tomorrow.
Here is a recent one:
2012 Elite Robert Griffin III Red Ink Inscription Auto
Here are the ones from earlier:
2012 Elite Trent Richardson Red Ink Inscription Auto
2012 Elite Ryan Tannehill Blue Ink Inscription Auto
2012 Elite LaMichael James l Blue Ink Inscription Auto
Although Elite looks to be getting better than the absolute tragedy that was the ENTIRE 2011 product, its still not all what it could be. It should be one of the more popular sets at the National Convention at the end of next week, and these inscription cards look to be a real reason why collectors will chase this set.
Now, if only we can get these types of ideas into other probable panini dogs like Momentum, Gridiron, and Prominence, we will be in business like we look to be with Prime Signatures.
I had to laugh at the mouthbreather who took the photo of the James card against a black background.
