Emmanuel Sanders Gives Us a Sneak Preview of 2010 Exquisite

On his facebook page today, Emmanuel Sanders gave us a voyeur sample of his recent signing with Upper Deck. Much to my and other’s delight, he showed us some pictures of the cards he was signing, including a nice look at the RAPs out of 2010 Exquisite. Although Exquisite will never be able to live up to its past incarnations because of a lack of NFL licensing, the cards do look to be on that level which we expect them to be on.

First off, from the picture below, we get a complete view of what the main box hits will look like. I really like the look of the card, and I think that Upper Deck continues to show why it’s design team is the best in the business. These cards make the National Treasures RAPs look amateurish, and that is even though there is a swatch shaped like an R disrupting the whole card. I think that regardless of the shape of the swatch, the card’s picture placement and composition is completely bad ass, and I think that the signature over it will look even better.

Although I dont plan on investing the same kind of money into 2010 Exquisite because of the NCAA branding, I think that Upper Deck continues to make me crave UD NFL licensing again. Its like they know we wont be satisfied with College jerseys, and yet they still taunt us with incredibly designed NCAA products just to make us long for the day when the NFL comes to their senses.

Here is the picture posted, Im interested to see what others think. My only complaint is the swatch window, and that is really it. Im think that so far, this is a win.

  1. First, when is this coming out?

I can get passed the R patch shape. It’s the photo that makes me wonder. Why get a shot where you can see the front of him? And also, why not clip the player out like in years past?

Is there something regarding the licensing that I’m missing?

  2. Love it, can’t wait. Call my perception colored because I collect Sanders but I gotta agree, the cards look gorgeous, minus that atrocious R swatch. I wonder how many of those will have the prime patches though…

  4. I have to say, while I enjoy reading your blog each and every day, this post is a pure example of what I think is a very staunch UD bias on your part. If this was a Panini product the title would have been “It sucks ass, but at least it isn’t on foil.” The rest of the post would rant about how fucking retarded it is to have an R-shaped jersey swatch instead of giving it short mention in one sentence. as a poster above mentioned, you would twist the knife on the fact that you can’t even see the player’s face.
Don’t get me wrong, most of Panini’s stuff looks like shit and I hate it almost as much as you, but if you are going to be a good critic and hate pretty much every card you set eyes on, you can’t let up just because it is an upper deck product.
