For those of you who are familiar with the set, there are a lot of parallels in the different inserts and two parallel to the rookie cards. The non-auto inserts can be unnumbered all the way down to 1, and the autos are out of 10 usually. For the rookie tickets, there are the regular tickets, the non-auto numbered to 99, and the championship tickets numbered 1/1. Because most of the top autos are signed on card, and the non-auto cards are EXACTLY the same as the auto cards, it opens the door for the douchebags to try and make a few bucks.
Here is exactly what I mean, check out this epic fail of a fake
Basically, the guy has taken his Sam Bradford insert card and decided it was a good idea to fake a signature to get some cash out of it. Im guessing there will be more like this, possibly going back to the fake stickers we saw a ton of back in the middle of last year. I would say that if you have ANY question as to the authenticity of an autographed card, you need to MOVE ON to the one you think is 100% real. Secondly, ALWAYS check the seller’s previous items for sale as well as the completed ones, because they are a huge clue as to previous attempts at scamming people.
Just remember, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
That is one of the worst fakes i have ever seen it looks like a two year old tried, unsuccessfully i might add, to forge someone’s signature. If anyone buys that they just need to look at all the other Bradford’s which look a million times different.
The autos are serially numbered and have the COA on the back.
I asked that guy if the card was serial numbered (when considering making a purchase) and he said no so I quickly moved on…
The people who would not know that are the people who would bid on this card. Because the serial number is on the back, there is no way to tell, unless you just know that it is.
I don’t think it will be a “major” problem. It will be a problem for people who don’t educate themselves on what they are buying, just like any kind of card product. Scammers are always going to try to scam. There isn’t a product out there that can’t be used like this in one way or another.
To really protect yourself these days, you need to stay informed. This just goes to show that If you let your guard down for a second, you can get scammed. I appreciates scam watch and the work that goes into it.
True, but that’s why you ask for a scan of the back. If I were trying to get $900 for a card, you would have that scan in 3 minutes. If it smells fishy, then it probably is.
Agreed.
Check out this epic fail also while you’re at it. I pulled this same tebow contenders with the “GB2” and checked ebay to see what they were selling for when I saw this sorry excuse. Anway the auto is real but the guy obviously wrote in the gb2 to try and get extra money out of the deal. I reported him and sent him a message telling him what I thought of him and it was taking down almost immediately. Here’s the link.
