2011 NFL Rookie Premiere: All Quiet On the Western Front

Wednesday was a big day for all sorts of stuff related to the 2011 NFL Rookie Premiere, however, not all of it was positive. Because of photos tweeted by Mark Ingram and Taiwan Jones, collectors were getting a look into the event that sparked some very interesting debate over the ways jerseys make it into rookie cards. As a result, it looks as if something was said, as many of the players stopped their personal coverage of their own experiences, leaving it up to the companies themselves to offer news and notes.

Therefore, there hasnt been much to talk about from yesterday’s events, as there really wasnt much from Topps or Panini as to what is going on. We got a look at the vast amounts of manu-patches and manu-letters that Panini is unfortunately using, as well as some photos of players taking photos, but that’s about it. Im guessing that was on purpose after what went down in terms of reaction.

One specific thing we did get this morning was a quick preview of Topps’ 2011 Rookie Premiere autos, cards that originally left a pretty terrible taste in my mouth when the preview was released. After seeing the way these turned out per the picture below, I think they did a pretty good job considering the limitations from the lockout. They will have a tough time living up to the success of 2009 and 2010’s amazing design, but I dont think they are anything to gripe about at this point.

Ill continue to update this post as more news is posted, something that should be a constant thing today with the field event taking place. Check back to see how much of a twitter and facebook stalker I can be, hopefully there will be some awesome stuff going down.
