We all know that with Bowman, its all about the low numbered refractors, autos and of course the 1/1 Superfractors. Although the non-auto chrome superfractor of Bryce Harper has yet to surface, 1/1 Red Parallel of the base card has been pulled and posted for sale – stupidly graded a BGS 9. Some of the other big name 1/1s have already started to show up as well, though the lack of strength in the class has limited the potential for the HUGE value like was seen in 2010 Bowman.
Here are some of the big cards already up:
Paul Goldschmidt Non Auto Superfractor 1/1
Michael Pineda 1/1 Atomic Bowman’s Best
Bryce Harper International Variation 1/1 Printing Plate
Manny Banuelos Bowman Red Parallel 1/1
Paul Goldschmidt Bowman Red Parallel 1/1
Personally, I really dont see a reason to spend THAT kind of money on anyone, but thus is the nature of prospecting. Some people do it extremely well, and just think about how many star players there are that didnt have the early hype behind them like Harper did/does. There is a lot of money to be made on some of these guys, but at this point, way too much is up in the air.
In addition to the superfractor 1/1s, Topps has also included some interesting book cards that many people have started to search for. On one side of the book is a cut signature of a really important player, while on the other, there is an original vintage bowman card. I really like this idea, but its not always easy to fit a cut on a vertically oriented book card.
Here are the ones up so far:
Phil Rizzuto 1/1 Cut and Bowman Original
Enos Slaughter 1/1 Cut Auto and Bowman Original
In the end, Bowman will not be remembered for cards of anyone else but Bryce Harper, and that is unfortunate for the people who are spending thousands on wax. Who knows, there could be a diamond in this rough.
