A New Type of Fake May Become a Major Issue

If there is a way to take advantage of people, the douchebags out there will find a way to do it. One of the ways that has constantly been a focus of the scammers is taking out the unfavorable swatches and replace it with logos. The new thing that is starting to take shape, is adding things to the card that carry a premium outside of what is normally included on the cards.

The easiest thing to add to an on card auto is an inscription, because really, you just take a marker and write. Hell, if there is enough room on the stickers, I dont see how that would be much harder. Because inscriptions usually carry extreme value in the hobby, its easy to see why they would be an easy target. In the end, its pretty easy to spot some of them, but others are not so easy.

This Chris Johnson SP Authentic Rookie Patch Auto actually has TWO fake elements. The patch of the Titans’ Sword logo is definitely not real, and that inscription of “Mr. 4.24” is laughable if not only because of the comical difference in pen thickness. This is not the first time something like this has popped up, but it is definitely the most recent example of the stupidity possessed by the creators and the buyers of these cards. When you see how many card companies are employing the use of inscription autographs to boost the content and value of their cards, this could be a major issue. I absolutely love inscription cards, as do a lot of other people, and this could be a large problem if it continues.

Even though I say this every time, your only defense against these fakes is YOU. The card companies and eBay have both shown that they are unwilling and unable to curb the fakes, so if its too good to be true, IT PROBABLY IS.

As more examples start popping up, ill post them ASAP.

  1. I don’t know if you read the description, but it says that it was inscribed at a show, so im guessing he is saying he had it inscribed himself by chris johnson, but still looks rediculous

  2. The fake add-on inscription autos have been on ebay for a while. I believe the card companies need to do something, now; and it’s easy enough to fix. I recommend that inscriptions should be the first 10, 20 or 30 numbered autographed versions of the card, and they should be so designated on checklists.

  3. Just like the card companies have started marking patch cards as “Prime” why not mark a card as “Inscription” if there is anything besides the autograph or as Charlie above stated, make it so only cards serial #/10 or some other way of differentiating it from the others. Of course this seller went out of the way to say it was done at a show which I guess is just another way to scam people who may otherwise question the authenticity of an autograph.

  4. I have seen that exact card with a differnt swatch in it on eBay about 2 months ago going for I think 80 or so…
It is also the exact same story.. About going to a show and having him sign a already amazing card.
In my opinion (not that it is worth much) that card is 100% altered 2 Times!

  5. wow, that is crazy!!! how is it numbered to 999 and he is the only person to get this tag!? LOL, people are stupid for believing this!! You pay for what you get, and ebay is just as much the crook as the seller!!
