I think the way the HOF is decided tends to be completely bonkers in just about every way. Crotchety old writers with no real understanding of how to measure those that can and cannot get in, exacerbated by a bias surrounding an entire generation of players. Not a great thing. Seeing that the 2014 class includes most but not all of the people who should be no doubters solidifies my feelings on this. Here is the hobby impact for the recent inductees.
Tom Glavine
Im going to start with Glavine because he was one of my favorite players growing up. I got to see him pitch in the 1991 World Series, and he was incredible even then. He may be one of the last pitchers to reach 300 wins, so it should be no doubt he gets in. He has had some autographs as of late, but his overall content is still pretty rare. A great autograph to go chase, as he was one of the dominant pitchers of his era.

Greg Maddux
All the things I just said about Tom Glavine also apply to Maddux, and then some. He was successful in every stage of the game, and was dominant for multiple teams. Although he didn’t win championship after championship, Maddux’s contribution to his teams were always extraordinary. I think he might be one of the greatest pitchers of all time, and that is not a crazy statement to make.

Frank Thomas
Its hard to believe that Frank Thomas is now HOF eligible, and I am so happy that the juiceball dynasty didn’t keep him out. Thomas is an all around hobby superstar since he was a rookie, and I STILL have his Leaf RC in my collection. Its an iconic card for an iconic player, and a guy that has always been a great asset to the game. He has signed a lot over the years, but his autograph is still valuable for a reason. The guy was incredible.

I think it’s a shame that Biggio was two votes shy of going in, and he should have gone in last year. I hate that we have to have this discussion every year, and I cant wait for the tides of voting to change – if they ever do. At least 3 guys that deserve it got to go.
