Bryce Harper Superfractor 10 Day Auction Frenzy Reminds of 2010 Strasburg Super

Bryce Harper has been dominating the news cycle so far this week, and now that he has started to settle in, there might be many more news stories about his production, and less about his hobby presence. Since his call up, many of his rare rookie cards have been posted to capitalize on his recent success. Of his rare cards, his two best are the 2010 Bowman USA Superfractor, which doesnt look to be coming up for sale any time soon, and the BCP1 superfractor from 2011 Bowman. With the release of 2012 Bowman next week, the top set of the year couldnt come fast enough. His red refractors are just now getting into the mix from this past year, and now there will be even more to add to the mix.

The 2011 Superfractor has been posted for sale a number of times and has not sold on a BIN/BO format in traditional ways. It has been reposted now, with a new seller and is selling in a 10 day auction with no reserve. Its basically no limit hold em for Baseball cards, and so far it looks like it is getting a LOT of early attention.

The auction already has 31 bids and it hasnt even been up for 24 hours.

The major problem with one of these formats is it brings in the riff-raff like never before, which is only more problematic when being sold by a seller with only 3 feedback. According to an email I received, he purchased the card in a “private transaction” and has put it up for sale, just like it should be right now.

For the most part, the 2010 Superfractor is probably as much of a desirable card as the 2011, even though this one is the first in his nationals uniform. If Harper is able to put together a huge game during the course of the next ten days, this card could get even more attention than it already has. The problem is separating the real bidders from the fake ones.

My prediction is that this card doesnt make it through the full 10 days, as I have to guess the Harper illuminati will not be so understanding of a new player on the field. However, the Strasburg super did end up selling legitimately this way, so you never know.

  1. Well his cards are going to probably take off even more now as he’s “secured” a roster spot permanently since Jayson Werth broke his wrist again and will be out a minimum of 6-8 weeks. Considering the first base Harper stole was home and he was already nailed with a pitch on purpose by Cole “flaming homoerotic” Hamels it’s gonna drive the prices a wee bit higher. Hopefully he does not pull a Strasburg and get injured during the season or we may see new ridiculous prices for a rookie on all card levels and on all brands.
