FIve Star has been on the market for close to five days now, and we are getting a good idea of the worth of the cards on the secondary market. Honestly, im actually surprised how the cards have faired on eBay, as many of them are not holding the value that I expected them to. In my opinion, the main hits out of Five Star are easily the best looking cards of the year, hands down. Its not even a competition. However, because the hobby tends to value OMG SICKZ MOJO patches that cover up the whole player on a card, more than great design work with on card autos, cards with smaller swatches cant garner the same type of worth. Its crazy, I know, but that’s the way it is. No matter that the top rookie patches are less than HALF of the print run of Exquisite, they still arent bringing the normal Exquisite type value one would expect.

Regardless of the value, the Five Star Auto Patches and the Five Star Quotables inscription cards are my favorite two cards that have been produced in a long time actually. I think they used GREAT player photos, amazing hard signed signatures, and some of the most amazing inscriptions in the history of hobby autograph cards. The patch cards are just as great, even with the tiny sized swatches. The design is absolutely tremendous, especially with the gold stamping that borders each card. It almost looks regal. That being said, here are my favorites so far:

Adrian Peterson Five Star Quotables Signature /10

I wrote about this card earlier this week upon my purchase, and I cannot wait until I have it in hand. The signature is the best signed Peterson card EVER, and the look of the card itself only adds to the allure. Easily my favorite all time card of his ever produced.

Percy Harvin Five Star Quotables Signature /10

I really like this card because Harvin used the whole card to sign his inscription. It was one thing to sign it 09 ROY, but he actually took the time to sign it 2009 NFL Offensive ROY. Its a great looking card, and I am working on getting one for myself.

Ryan Mathews Rookie Patch Auto /40

At the rookie premiere, Mathews wore a lame looking helmet, and smiled in every picture. Not the kind of thing I want on my card. I want game face style looks. When the 2010 season started, he switched to a Tomlinson style helmet and visor, something that is captured on this card. It looks amazing.

Drew Brees Five Star Quotables Auto /10

Another amazing looking inscription card that I would kill for if I were a Saints fan. I think that SB MVP inscriptions are really cool, because its the best moment of the best game for the best team. Eli Manning signed his in a similar fashion, so did Peyton and Elway. I love it.

Ed Reed Patch Auto /60

Players like Reed will be first ballot HOFers. He is arguably one of the best safeties to ever play the game. Because he plays defense, he rarely gets any hobby love, and it is great that he made it onto the Five Star checklist with a cool card like this one.

Darrelle Revis Five Star Quotables Auto /10

I am thinking that Revis may end up going down as one of the best corners ever, at least once all is said and done. He still hasnt hit the prime of his career and he is the top guy in the league. Like Reed, he rarely gets on cards, and his inscription card is one of the best of the whole set.

Brett Favre Five Star Quotables Auto /10

Farve has had exactly ZERO on card Vikings autos before this set. To get a card like this as the first one produced is like having a Filet Mignon the first time you taste beef. The inscription is epic, the card looks amazing, and will most likely be one of his most valuable non 1/1s that ever gets made.

Gerald McCoy Rookie Patch Auto /40

Ndamukong Suh may have had the best season of the two, but McCoy has one of the coolest patch autos in the set. The picture on the card makes this a great lesser hit, and is a great example of why Five Star’s impact should be more than it is so far. When I am looking at buying a card like this because of the way it looks, that says something about how cool the cards are.

LaDanian Tomlinson Five Star Quotables Signature /10

Back in the middle part of the 2000’s, Tomlinson’s cards commanded huge money. He somewhat tailed off in San Diego before having a great season in New York, and I think this card is a must for any Jets fan. I may buy one for myself just to have a Tomlinson card in my collection. Also, like Favre, this is his first hard signed Jets auto, and it could actually be one of his last.

Jerome Bettis Patch Auto /15

When it comes to the Steelers, there are a lot of collectors who chase their cards. Bettis is a guy that carries value because of that fact. One of the other reasons that his cards carry value is because his signature is big and beautiful. Up until this set, many of his cards were made by Panini, which of course meant a confined sticker for him to sign. Seeing a patch like this is a great reminder of why on card is the best.

Ben Tate Five Star Quotables Auto /15

The only reason this card is on this list is because of the ridiculous inscription. Its just a crazy thing to put on a card, for a guy that spent the year on IR. Its definitely representative of the possibilities and potential that a set like this presents, sometimes with amazing results, sometimes with hilarious fails.
