Michael Vick is the new darling of the NFL after a great game this week, the second in as many games. Last year, it was unclear if he would ever be able to reclaim a spot on a roster, now it is just a question of whether or not the Eagles will win the division. Since he has taken over the helm, he has thrown TD pass after TD pass, with a few typical Vick rushing TDs to match. To put it simply, he is MURDERING the defenses he plays against.
If you remember back to 2008, it was practically impossible to GIVE a Michael Vick card away, let alone sell one for any money. These days, that tune has changed drastically. Remember the autographed 2001 SP Authentic Patch Auto that was selling for close to a grand at the end of 2005? Its slowly coming back around, much to the surprise of all of the people who held onto them despite the value plummet.
In fact, a BGS 10 sold for such a ridiculous price that I am actually shocked beyond belief. I mentioned in a previous post that one game can make a player, but when spending THAT kind of money on a guy like Vick, id wait a few games. Its not like he has any sustained results at this point. Of course, that wont stop people, but that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. Vick isnt some rookie like Jahvid Best or a newer guy like Arian Foster. He is a guy who is coming up on the downside of his playing career by most standards, and he has a NUMBER of character issues. How is that even close to a good investment, even if you are an Eagles fan?
Hell, even his SPXs are at prices I wouldn’t pay with someone else’s money, and that’s after they were selling for under 20 bucks at one point. Vick could carry the Eagles to the super bowl for all I care, but I cannot support buying his stuff until that point. It just isnt worth the risk. One more strike and he will be gone for good, and with his and his family’s history, that is unfortunately not out of the question.
Here are some of the more suprising sales from the post game yesterday:
2001 Crown Royale Rookie Auto – This company isnt even around anymore and the cards are selling stupid.
2001 Leaf Rookies and Stars Auto – Rookies and Stars? For that price? Really?
2001 Contenders Rookie Ticket – Imagine if this was BGS. Wow.
2001 Topps Debut Auto – I don’t even know what this set is and it sold for close to 100 bucks.
Seriously guys, this is getting nuts. More than usual.
