I bust a little bit of everything these days. Im always buying a few packs here, a few packs there of each product that is released, but with Chrome, it was going to be at least a case worth of cards. I busted the first two boxes yesterday with some very nice luck. Luck I never have had except once, and probably would never have again.
First, before I get into the pulls, let me say that Chrome looks great this year. In person, it looks better than I could have ever imagined it to be. I was originally unsure of my feelings in regards to the way the Sepia Refractors and Atomic Refractors look, however in person, they look tremendous. The autographs, especially the on card ones look amazing, and Topps deserves all the credit in the world for getting this done. Even though there are stickers for the combine picture guys, many of them rarely matter where it counts. I do hate that they are STILL using these pictures, but Im too focused on the other great things than what I knew was going to be a carbon copy of flagship.
When I opened the first box, I thought it was going to be another luck-less day of busting all over again. The best cards I got, which werent many, were a Ryan Mathews atomic refractor /199, a Julio Jones refractor, and an Alex Green on card auto. Not a good start, even though he plays for the Packers.
My luck quickly changed, as the second box had to be one of the best I have opened, ever. Within the first few packs, I had a Cam Newton base RC, a Jake Locker base RC, and two other Cam Newton inserts – including the diecut Superlative. In the sixth pack I hit a Greg Little SP Variation Auto which I hear are VERY tough pulls. I was all ready to call the box a success when I hit this card in the second to last pack:
That allure and rush that people talk about when pulling Superfractors is definitely accurate, as I have never had the jolt before this one. I now know why people love these cards as much as they do, as their history in the hobby precedes them. Even though I dont like the style of the way it looks, the gold chrome is hard to ignore. Torrey Smith isnt exactly the best Superfractor you can pull, but it is far from the worst. I have already gotten a few nice offers on it, but none that I am willing to take without letting it sit for a day.
Smith had his breakout game with 3 TDs outside the collective memory of a lot of collectors, so his value isnt as high as it used to be, but its still up high enough to sell now. With Chrome being red-hot, this is the time to test the waters.
Here is the Greg Little auto I pulled, which I sold earlier last night for more than I expected.
I also managed to pull a DJ Williams Sepia to 99, an Eli Manning Atomic to 199, a Marcell Dareus Black refractor to 299, a Jake Locker Bowman Chrome, along with another Cam Newton insert. So, just to remind everyone, that is two very nice box hits, 4 Cams, 2 Lockers, and some nice color. It was a good day.
Ill post the rest of my results as I get them. No reason to move fast considering the metric ton of money I have stupidly spent on Christian Ponder singles.
wow looks really nice, love the value you can get, how much is the price per box? why did you stupidly spend on Ponders singles, he is doing pretty good now?
So much bling on those supers its hard not to get excited when you pull one
Nice box! That’s one for the good guys.
Damn, nice!
I really like this product and I love the on-card rookie autos. The Bowman Chrome inserts look really nice this year. Like you, I wish Topps had produced a stand alone set for Bowman Chrome. The one thing I absolutely hate about this product is the number of rookies in their combine workout clothes. They outnumber the rookies in actual uniforms almost 2-1. Of the two boxes I bought the other day, I was really bummed to pull a Greg McElroy rookie auto in his workout attire. UGH!!!! However, the Von Miller atomic refractor auto in the other box more than made up for it.
