I hate mistakes on cards. Whether its this or that, its always a detriment to the overall cool factor of a card that could have been much better. Over the last year, Panini seems to have made their fair share of mistakes in products, whether its stuff like this Adrian Peterson or any number of other things, but you would expect them to figure out those problems before releasing a product like 2010 National Treasures.
The first problem that I have noticed is that there are a few players that have upside down stickers. If you are going to have a complete cop out of an auto checklist because they are all labels, you better do them right. When you see that they messed up cards that are in their pre-release hype video, you would think that it would set off some red flags. However, when you see that this Mark Sanchez 1/1 Reebok Logo Auto suffers the same fate, I think its a testament to how many issues can be present in any sticker use situation.
Secondly, there is no excuse for a card like this Brandon Prettigrew base card. I mean, I dont understand why Brandon Pettigrew is even in this set to begin with. I guess that is maybe why they didnt run spell check on the individual elements of the card. Seriously, this is just stupid crap.
I have to say that there are so many fail elements to National Treasures this year, that stuff like this rarely phases me anymore. Its just expected.
Then again, Panini isnt the only one with problems, as we can see from this 2011 Sage Hit Autograph of AJ Green, but when its SAGE, its like saying crap just got crappier because of a position error. Then again, Upper Deck is the ones that are most famous for mixing up Tony Gwynn and his son, or any of the many other player confusion errors they have had.
In the end, these people need to get their shit together.
Sarcasm alert
What are you talking about Gellman? Collector’s love upside down sticker autos and other “SICK SP error MOJO” in their high end products.
Panini is giving collectors what they want.
It’s just like Panini and Chris Olds told me on twitter… you really don’t speak for most collectors.
HA!
Panini is pathetic. I have really never been a fan of Panni, but since Bradford gate, I will never support their products again, boxes or singles.
I wish UD would get their NFL license back.
How about the Dwight Howards base card in the Donruss 10′-11 set? His stats are from teams he has never played on.
What do you guys think about the 2010 Donruss Elite cards of pitcher Jordan Swagerty that all have Magic Johnson autographs on them? That one had to have been some sort of intentional publicity stunt or something. The sticker autos could have been a mistake (and Panini claims they are), but there are Arizona State patch cards with Magic’s ‘graph on the actual swatch.
Magic Johnson would probably sign a My Little Pony if you just gave him the $125 for his autograph. Bottom line is Panini, as a business, needs to just go out of business. They fail at design, they can’t get value in a product and they can’t even keep track of all their stupid stickers, or manufactured patches, in this case. Like I said elsewhere… those Mark Sanchez stickers aren’t upside down, Sanchez is just that damn good at signing his name upside down and backwards. That’s probably going to turn into thier response, at some point.
