Terrelle Pryor Set To Make His Presence Felt in Topps’ Product Line

When it comes to purchasing rookie autographs, potential for success in the NFL doesn’t always contribute 100% to the value of a player’s card. Sometimes, like in the case of recently washed out Colt Brennan, college performance or affliliation can drive value just as high. Look at Tim Tebow or Colt McCoy, or even someone like Mark Ingram. Each of these rookies attended HUGELY popular college programs, and have attributed value outside of their value gained from potential to do well in the NFL.

After an announcement by Topps yesterday, you can add the new Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor to that list. Pryor will have cards in a number of upcoming Topps products per their twitter account, starting with Bowman Sterling football, and after looking again at how much his UD autos sell for, it’s a very good move. Even though I don’t believe Pryor will ever start a full season or even 16 games as an NFL QB, its obvious he has a lot of fans, regardless of his past transgressions.

Upper Deck had the first autographs of him in this year’s Sweet Spot football, and some of them are selling at the cost of a box. It is absolutely shocking to me, as Pryor really didn’t even have much runaway success in college to warrant that type of value. His only value is as a Raiders player and as an OSU player, combined with his newsworthy-ness as a delinquent NCAA student athlete.

Panini was also able to put him into their recent release of 2011 Threads, but the card looks so utterly ridiculous, I don’t think it will carry any value in the long run. Basically, these Topps cards will definitely be worth a lot when they are released, as they should have the first pictures of him in a Raiders uniform.

No matter for me, Ill be happy to sell off these cards at huge prices if they come up in a pack or box.
