Back when I talked with Topps Manager Clay Luraschi before the release of Five Star Football, he promised that there would be more on card driven products to accompany it this year. From the looks of 2011 Inception, this is the beginnings of that new direction for a company that used to be label driven. Inception is a GREAT name for a set, especially a rookie driven set like this one, and I think the design definitely caters to the name. It obviously throws to one of my favorite movies of last (or any) year, and though there doesn’t seem to any veteran auto content on the checklist, it doesn’t really matter when you bring everything else to the table.
Although this product still has some stickers from the look of this preview, there looks to be a good deal of on card rookie signatures throughout. From the description sent along with these preview images, these mockups will be adjusted to showcase the rookies in their NFL gear, post premiere. This is something that I think adds a lot to the on card autos, mainly because of how much better things tend to look. Usually we have to wait until late in the year to get anything on card with premiere pictures, but from the looks of it, this will be the first one in the middle of the year during JULY. WOW.
Its going to be a one pack product with a lot of content (2 on card autos or patch autos per pack with 1 other memorabilia hit), something that I think will do VERY well in the middle of the year where Platinum makes a killing.
Here is what we are looking at:
very nice looking set
Silver signatures on black stock is such an awesome look. They hardly ever use it
Just for shits & giggles they should insert autos of Leo DeCaprio and the other main characters from the movie.
A Julious Jones NFL Equipment patch card? The guy hasnt even been drafted yet, let alone been at a rookie photo shoot. What a joke.I doubt he even wore that patch.
These havent been produced yet. Its a mock up preview to show what it will look like. Calm down.
Love the silver sigs over black.
Except for the Bowers, I’d swear that those were UD cards. NICE designs! Way to go Topps! Big win again IMO, especially for us!
Very boring looking set
Wow this set looks incredibly good. Thank god Topps is jumping in to fill the void the REAL Leaf limited left behind when Panini took over the helm. Now I have somewhere to spend that extra $2,500 that I used to spend on DLP products (hope the wife will let me spend $7,500 since I haven’t bought any DLP in nearly 2 years). Man oh man I am excited by this preview. Pics like this just emphasize how horrible Panini products look. But who am I to complain as I am sure they would just say I wasn’t part of their target audience!
Ok, thought it was the real deal. I still cant stand the “event” worn garbage anyway. Though the set does look nice.
I’m loving the look of this set. The dark backgrounds make the colors in the player photos and patches pop. My only complaint is smoke effect in the area where the autographs are placed looks more like someone hit it with an eraser. Otherwise, depending on the price, it looks like I found the perfect set to replace my Black addiction.
